He holds an MA in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi; an MA in Artistic Research in and through Cinema from the Netherlands Film Academy; and is currently pursuing a practice-based PhD Arts at Leiden University and the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague. Since 2018, Tusharr has pursued a sustained inquiry into the legacy of painter Jangarh Singh Shyam, supported by fellowships and residencies including Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris. Most recently, his experimental feature documentary Roohrangi (2025) premiered at the 63rd Ann Arbor Film Festival. The film reimagines the forest as a site of lived queer histories and imagined utopias, interlacing intimacies of queer cruising with family history.

His other works include Lonely Hearts Club (2022), a collaborative documentary-theatre performance, and Sylvanium (2024), a multimedia exhibition combining photography, video, and performance.

Across these projects, Tusharr’s career is defined by research-driven cinema, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and engagement with art education.

RAM BAHADUR TROPHY
for BEST FILM
"The subcontinent is rife with conflict. There are wars that raged fiercely before burning themselves out. There are conflicts that continue to smoulder, and there are others in which homes are still set on fire driving hundreds of thousands of refugees across borders. In all of these conflicts, it is the civilians who are caught in the middle, they are ones who have to struggle to live and try not to die. The film explores an ongoing conflict that has trapped a people for decades, and how artists find an outlet in the arts and music."
- Jury citation at 11th Film Southasia
